FAQ

HOW SHOULD I CARE OF MY JEWELRY ON A DAY-TO-DAY BASIS ?

Whether you wear them every day or only occasionally, your pieces of jewelry are precious objects that require care and attention. The recommendations below will help you to preserve them in their original condition. • Allow yourself the necessary time to be able to handle your jewelry carefully. • Ensure that you remove your jewelry when washing your hands and putting on perfume or face cream. The particles present in these cosmetics, which are not eliminated by rapid rinsing, may become lodged in cavities and form a corrosive blend of materials that in the long term may lead to premature deterioration of the metal. • Regular contact with household detergents or insecticides may damage pearls and certain precious stones. • Products containing mercury, such as Mercurochrome, cause irreversible damage to gold. • Take your regular activities into account when choosing your jewelry. Avoid wearing them on the beach, at the swimming pool or to play sport so as to avoid knocks and scratches. Wearing your jewelry should also be avoided when doing housework or gardening. • Avoid the friction caused by sliding your pendant on its chain or wearing several rings on the same finger. • Ensure you do not place your jewelry too close to sources of intense heat, to X-rays or to other sources of radioactivity. SOME PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES Before putting on your piece of jewelry, examine it for a moment: • check that the clasp (and its safety catch if it has one) is not "loose": • check that the settings of the stones have not moved, as follows: • either by shaking the piece of jewelry close to your ear: if you hear a slight noise, this means that the stones are no longer perfectly secured; • or by rubbing the piece of jewelry against a thin cloth: if the cloth catches, this means that the prongs have moved or the prongs are worn. If you are in the slightest doubt, it is advisable not to wear your piece of jewelry until you have had it checked by a Certified Jeweler at a Fast Fix Jewelry and Watch Repair Shop.

HOW SHOULD I KEEP MY JEWELRY IN GOOD CONDITION ?

Your jewelry should be cleaned regularly. If it contains lapis lazuli, coral, pearls, turquoises or emeralds, or if in general it contains a significant cluster of stones, the task of cleaning it should be entrusted to one of our specialists at a Fast Fix Jewelry and Watch Repair shop. If it does not include these types of stone, you may carry out the cleaning yourself. Scrub the jewelry delicately with a very soft small brush in lukewarm soapy water, carefully rinse it in lukewarm water and wipe it with a soft cloth. Once every year, leave your pieces of jewelry at a Fast Fix Jewelry and Watch Repair Shop so we will have them checked, cleaned and revitalized. Once every two to three years, have the stringing of your pearl necklace serviced.

HOW TO STORE MY JEWELRY ?

Pieces of jewelry become scratched when they come into contact with one another. We recommend you to store them individually in a jewelry case . Chains should be closed and laid flat so as to avoid the formation of knots. You are strongly advised not to place several pieces of jewelry together without protection.

HOW SHOULD I CARE OF MY WATCH ON A DAY-TO-DAY BASIS ?

Whether you wear it every day or only occasionally, your watch is an object that requires care and attention. The recommendations made below will help you to preserve it for many years to come, with all its accuracy, regularity of rate and authenticity. • Try to keep your watch away from all sources of magnetism, e.g., smartphones and computers, but also magnetized handbag clasps, loudspeakers or airport metal detectors. These in fact generate strong magnetic fields which may have an effect on your watch's movement ranging from minor interference to actually causing it to stop. In the latter case it will be necessary to call on the services of a Fast Fix Jewelry and Watch Repair Certified Watchmaker to carry out a demagnetization procedure. • In order to preserve the shine of the polished surfaces and precious stones found in your watch, avoid wearing a bracelet on the same wrist. • If your watch is equipped with a self-winding mechanical movement, have the bracelet adjusted by a Fast Fix Jewelry and Watch Repair watch technician in order to ensure the optimal working of the movement. • To prevent premature wear and tear of the bracelet, do not wear your watch when sleeping. • To protect its movement from vibrations or temperature differences that might damage it, you are recommended not to wear your watch when playing sports such as golf or tennis or taking part in activities such as saunas. • Whether your watch is water-resistant or not, you can clean it with a soft, dry cloth. IF Your watch is certified Water Resistant and its water-resistance is ensured by a series of seals. Before any contact with water, however, please ensure that the crown of your watch is not pulled out. When your watch is under water, do not activate the push-pieces for the chronograph function, the minute-repeater or the second time zone. After swimming, make sure to rinse your water-resistant watch in fresh water so as to neutralize the harmful effects of sea-water or chlorine. The water-resistance seals of your certified Water Resistant watch undergo natural deterioration due to aging. You are recommended to have a regular water-resistance check performed once every year if your watch is worn during sporting activities or frequently comes into contact with water, or once every two years when worn in normal conditions. Carried out by Fast Fix Jewelry and Watch Repair Services, this check makes it possible to determine the condition of your watch's water-resistance, and to change all the seals, if necessary.

WHAT IS THE PROPER MAINTENANCE OF MY WATCH MOVEMENT ?

With its intricate mechanism, the movement of your watch needs to be cleaned at regular periods. This is because, over time, the oils it contains dry out and may cause friction which will affect the accuracy of the mechanism. A service carried out once every three to five years by a Fast Fix Jewelry and Watch Repair Certified Watchmaker will enable you to preserve the precision and reliability of your watch movement. If your watch is noticeably fast or slow, the movement may need to be serviced before five years have elapsed, depending on how often you wear it. Even if you do not wear it regularly, a mechanical watch must be periodically wound up so that the workings of the movement are regularly oiled. Any Overhaul on the movement done at Fast Fix Jewelry and Watch Repair Shop, based on the movement carries 12 to18 month warranty from the day of completion.

IF MY WATCH HAS A RUBBER OR LEATHER STRAP ?

The care and tests that we devote when choosing a supplier of watch-straps ensure that they are of the highest quality, enjoying in normal conditions of use an average lifespan of eighteen months. However a dense urban environment and intense exposure to sunlight may cause the premature aging of the strap. The day-to-day maintenance of a rubber strap can be ensured by cleaning it with soapy water. Contact with cosmetic varnishes should be avoided. When we choose leather watch-straps we ensure that they are of the highest quality, enjoying in normal conditions of use an average lifespan of between six and twelve months. However, contact with water or any other liquid may accelerate wear and tear on the strap. We recommend you to entrust the changing of your watch's rubber strap to a Fast Fix Jewelry and Watch Repair Shop. There you will be offered a choice of models that fit your watch-case perfectly, fitted with tongue buckles or adjustable folding clasps from the leading watch band brands worldwide.
